Which part inside the band
Most bands name more than one part. The defrost band holds a heater, a thermostat and a sensor; the fan band two fans in two places; the ice and water band a module, a valve and a line. Which one failed sets much of the figure.
How far in the part sits
Reach comes next. On a Classic built-in the condenser sits behind the flip-up grille; on a Designer integrated unit, behind the kickplate. An evaporator fan or a defrost heater is behind a panel inside the compartment, so the freezer is emptied first. A PRO 48 or a stack of drawers is laid out differently again.
Ice that has to go first
A coil locked in frost must thaw right through before its cover comes off. Rushing the thaw risks the fins, so the waiting is part of the job.
A second part that failed with the first
A seal that leaked for weeks may have iced the coil as well. When two parts are named, each is priced in its own band and you see both before saying yes. The same holds for freezer drawer repair: which part, how far in, and whether ice came with it.
Why the bands sit where they do
Three things lift a Sub-Zero repair above the same job on an ordinary refrigerator.
